Now that you know the foundations of our business model, let’s dive into those myths and misconceptions.

Myths and misconceptions about Mavericks

Freelancer business

We already slightly touched this topic above, and nope, Mavericks is not a freelancer business. We offer typical employment relationship with common benefits. However, we do offer more freedom, flexibility and better than average compensation than other typical employment relationships.

Our benefits include:

  • Choose your work equipment (laptop, phone and anything typically attached to them)
  • Lunch allowance as part of salary
  • Phone benefit
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work from different locations
  • Comfortable and modern premises + snacks at the office (Helsinki, Turku and soon also Tampere)
  • Comprehensive occupational health care
  • Comprehensive health and accident insurance covering special care, medical operations and medicines
  • Child care service for sick children
  • Opportunity to participate in the development of a growth company

No paid holidays

Our consultants accrue annual leave in exactly the same way as other salaried employees. Holiday pay is based on commission-based earnings in the year of the holiday: if you have earned an average salary of 7000€/month, your holiday pay is also 7000€ plus 50% holiday pay.

No paid sick leave

Yes, we do pay sick pay. The sick pay is paid at the average hourly rate of commission for the previous six months. This means that occasional illnesses have virtually no impact on earnings.

Cannot become a Mavericks Consultant without consulting experience

Oh yes you can! Here’s a great reading tip if you want to know what it takes to be a great software consultant. If you tick most of the boxes or are eager to learn the ropes, just hit us up!

Cannot apply if there isn’t an open position for my role/skills

Of course you can! On top of the few positions that we’re constantly looking for, we are also eager to hear from all kinds of software professionals! Just send us an open application or give our recruiters a call to book an easy-going no-commitment chat!

No communality

For those longing for communality, we organize brunches, parties, hackathons, beer brewing, joint sports sessions, and various business development sessions. Having fun and spending time with our colleagues is something that we value greatly. Participation is, however, completely optional and we respect the ones who only want to focus on customer projects and nothing else.

No support for professional development

Mavericks supports employees’ skills development. If you want to, for example, obtain a certificate, Mavericks will gladly pay for the training! Moreover, all Mavericks consultants are senior professionals who are eager to spar and help with any technical problem!
